placenta-growing
Made it through the first trimester! Baby Lam is now the size of a peach, apparently. I brought in the requisite "I'm expecting" donuts to work for my coworkers -- I figured it was about time I should announce it to them before they start to think I'm just getting a really big beer belly. I'm starting to show a little, and my handy "Be Band" isn't going to be enough to hold the belly in much longer. I busted out the maternity pants for the first time today.
Everyone asks me how I'm feeling -- I haven't had any morning sickness, really, praise God! I threw up for the very first time last week, but Tony thinks it was just because I was crying (don't ask). I don't have much of an appetite, surprisingly. I thought preggie women were supposed to devour everything and eat for two, but I feel much better nibbling at smaller meals throughout the day. I guess maybe that's my form of nausea -- I just eat less so I don't get to the point where I actually throw up? I dunno.
My only real symptom is that I've been really tired. It's hard work growing a placenta! I hear the second trimester is better and you gain your energy back once your placenta is up and running. :) I'm looking forward to that, since I've pretty much neglected my wifely duties and just lain helplessly in bed a lot the past few months. Tony has been the best husband in the world. Yesterday after work, he did yard work, laundry, and cooked a delicious meal for me and Jimmy. And he washed the dishes and cleaned afterward! I'm so blessed. :) I think he may tire of me soon. Hehe.

We went in for a checkup last week, and the nurse was trying to use the Doppler machine thingy so we could hear the baby's heartbeat. After a few minutes of hearing nothing but gurgles from my belly, I started to freak out because we couldn't find the heartbeat. She decided to roll in the ultrasound machine to check on the baby. And there he/she was, heart beating perfectly fine, swimming happily in his/her amniotic fluid! I was very happy we got a "free" extra ultrasound because of this -- especially since I somehow lost the first ultrasound picture we were given. Baby Lam is a LOT bigger now than the blob from before, and actually looks like a mini-human! He/she was crossing his/her legs and the hand was up by the mouth, possibly sucking the thumb? He/she was moving around a LOT and very active. :D Yay.

i think you start eating more 2nd/3rd trimester?
hi beverly! hope you don't mind me commenting on your baby updates, it's fun following along when it's someone you know :).
no morning sickness?! i'm too jealous! and personally, i didn't eat that much more than normal 1st and 2nd trimester but near the end of 2nd i suddenly had a HUGE appetite. don't know why, since there is so little space for food with the baby taking up all the room. one of those mysteries of pregnancy i guess :).
excited to read more about little lam!
aw, ofc i don't mind phyllis :) you must be almost there now, right?! so exciting! i wish i could fast-forward the next 28 weeks for me!
yes, we're nearing the home stretch :)...34.5 weeks, eek! i'm sure it'll all go by so much faster than you think :). i still can't believe we'll be bringing a baby home soon!
The size of a peach..that is so cute! I like how you started saying "the thumb" instead of "his/her thumb" towards the end of your post :) I love looking at ultrasounds! Just wait until you can start seeing actual fingers--its awesome!
Being tired all the time is no fun...I didn't realize pregnancy came with so much fatigue!
